As Christians, we're constantly engaged in a spiritual struggle.
In physical warfare, people fight battles on different fronts for a variety of reasons and to different levels of intensity — the same is true for spiritual warfare. Even though we cannot see the attacker physically, our spiritual battles are as real as if the attackers were standing in front of us.
In the world around us, there are both angelic and demonic forces at work. As Christians, we fight a spiritual battle against evil every day. Jesus instructs us to pray for God's will to come true on earth as it is in heaven.
As God is directing our lives according to His will, even the gates of hell can't stop us from completing the work God has set out for us to accomplish.
In this article, we’ll give you four prayers to protect yourself and your family from spiritual warfare.
A spiritual war is a battle in which Satan tries to keep us from God's will for us.
The enemy’s objective is to keep us as far away from God as possible. The devil will do whatever he can to stop us from following Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Through the difficulties of spiritual warfare, God uses it as an opportunity to strengthen His relationship with us.
“For we don't wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
Ephesians 6:12 tells us that our battle is ultimately against "spiritual forces of evil." This verse implies that the real conflict lies between good and evil. We are fighting a spiritual battle for our souls as the evil one seeks to separate us from God and turn us away from Him.
However, those with God have already won the battle since the Lord Jesus Christ overcame death. If we wish to be saved from the second death of the spirit, we must be born again with faith in Jesus Christ.
The word of God instructs us to be vigilant and spiritually fit and to guard our hearts and minds. Recognizing that spiritual warfare exists and honestly reflecting on how it affects you are the first steps to protecting yourself against it.
"For in the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith” (Romans 1:17).
A faceless enemy isn’t something you can handle in the physical world. And even though you can’t see it, it can be especially detrimental to your relationship with Jesus, as the enemy is trying to divert you from having a devotional relationship with him.
To resolve this conflict, you must submit to God and abstain from Satan's influence. By giving yourself to God's protection, you will have the strength to resist the devil's schemes.
When you’re facing spiritual attacks, it can be frightening. However, you don't have to endure the fear of battle alone.
When you are in distress, you can always turn to God for assistance and protection. Here are four prayers to use in your daily life if you’re facing spiritual warfare.
Dear Lord, we know that the enemy wouldn’t be fighting so hard against us if we weren’t making a difference for your kingdom. He wouldn’t be trying so hard to stop us if he didn’t think you had so much good still in store. Remind us, today, Lord, that the battle belongs to you, and whatever we’re up against can be taken down in one fell swoop by your mighty hand.
Please help us to trust you more, to stop wasting time just spinning our wheels or fighting in our strength. Forgive us for the times we’ve neglected to set our eyes and hearts on you, for the days we’ve forgotten to come to you first.
Fill us with the power of your Holy Spirit. Fill us with your wisdom and discernment to make us aware of the enemy’s traps, so we can stand strong against his schemes. Thank you for your constant reminders that your presence will go with us, in whatever we face, and you'll give us rest. Amen.
Dear Heavenly Father, here I am before your throne with a heavy heart and an anxious mind. Come, Lord, and fill me with your Holy Presence. Let me rest and be at peace. Let me feel your protection. Let me feel as if I’m under the shadow of your wings. Safe, hidden, and secure in you. Only you can give and take it all.
Father, please take my fear away and give me your peace that surpasses all understanding. You know that my life is in your hands. My trust and my hope are in you alone, Father. Thank you, in the name of Jesus, amen.
Almighty God, maker and ruler of all things, I pray that you guide me to you with your great mercy because I cannot find my way alone. Please give me the strength I need. May you direct me to your will because I am incapable on my own.
Let my soul be aware of its need, and keep my mind steadfast to your will. Help me to resist Satan's temptations. Remove all unrighteousness from me, and shield me from my enemies, both mental and physical. Help me to have a sound mind and to stand firm in my beliefs.
I ask you to help me to always love you so that I can do your will with a pure mind. Praise and glory be to you now and forever in eternal life. For you are both my maker and my redeemer. My help, my hope, my comfort. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
O Lord, my God, I know that as long as I live here, I'll battle my sinful nature. Recently, that battle has been on my mind. I am begging you, as a child of God, for you to silence all voices except yours. Let your voice be as clear as the birds at dawn.
Protect me with your spiritual armor. I'll gladly adorn myself with the full armor of God. I'll place upon myself the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the helmet of salvation, the shield of faith, the sword of the spirit, and the gospel of peace.
I ask you to protect me and my loved ones. Let the blood of Jesus wipe away our sins and make us clean again. These are the weapons of our warfare.
Protect me and my family by putting a wall around us and appealing to our minds so that we may follow You. I surrender myself wholeheartedly to You. Father, I recognize that I need more of you, as my mind is constantly exposed to things that aren't holy or pure. When I am replaying the bad things I've done, it’s hard to concentrate on the good.
I'm constantly under attack from within and without. Help me to cultivate the mind of Christ within me by guiding me to scriptures that will help me to do that. Amen.
To understand how the enemy operates, we must understand spiritual warfare.
When someone accepts Jesus as their Savior, they'll experience intense spiritual warfare. It’s important to understand that the battle isn't against flesh and blood but against powers that are heavenly in nature. When we arm ourselves with the knowledge of God, we're protected.
