“Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.”
Some of the holiest dates on God’s calendar are called Rosh Hashanah (Head of the Year), or the Feast of Trumpets. It begins September 25th at sunset and ends September 27th at nightfall. Why does God remind us to blow the trumpets? We can find the answer in the Book of Exodus: “Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the entire mountain quaked violently. When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him with thunder.” (Exodus 19:18-19) Just as God descended on Mount Sinai in a dramatic display of power, Jesus will also appear similarly, announced from heaven by a cosmic shofar that is heard worldwide. (1 Thessalonians 4:16) This Feast of Trumpets, God is reminding us to have an overflowing expectation of Yeshua’s return! So let’s live every day in anticipation of Jesus’ second coming and take this opportunity to rekindle our passion and yearning to see Him. The Lord desires us to live with the mindset that Yeshua will return in our lifetime.
Dear Lord, thank You for reminding me to look up each year during the Feast of Trumpets because my redemption is near! Jesus, I believe You are coming back for me. And with the Holy Spirit of God, I say, come, Lord Jesus, I eagerly anticipate Your return. In Jesus’ name, amen.
