“Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.”
God is and has always been a promise keeper. And He sometimes asks us to do unusual things so that His prophesies come to pass. In Zechariah 9:9, the prophet states, “See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Then, in Matthew 21, Jesus fulfills this prophecy by asking His disciples to take a donkey so that He may triumphantly and peacefully enter Jerusalem. Jesus asks them to “take” — but isn’t that odd?
Think about the donkey owner and what God may have spoken to him. Maybe God gave this man a vision that the Savior would one day have need of his donkey, and he was waiting expectantly for this day to come. Perhaps his donkey being stolen was the best day of his life because this meant the Lord was fulfilling Zechariah’s prophecy. This simple animal was pivotal to the salvation of mankind.
Are you excited for the Lord to use you in mighty ways? It’s time to believe that the Lord has need of you, too, to fulfill His plans. God may ask you to do something beyond your understanding or that makes no sense — but hold on to the promises He gives you no matter how unbelievable they seem.
Ask God to speak to you and wait a few minutes to hear His still, small voice. Make this a daily exercise, and believe that He will lead you into something extraordinary.
