“Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
Sometimes we discover God’s will after looking over our shoulder to see what He has already done. Other times, it is as indiscernible as the weather 25 years out. But God’s will can also be as clear to us as a bolt of lightning or an incredibly wise piece of advice. Our Father’s will is that we seek His “good, acceptable and perfect” will (Romans 12:2). Jesus said, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me” (John 6:38). Even Jesus struggled with the will of his Father. In an anguished prayer in Gethsemane, he paraphrased this petition, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). From that prayer came discernment, obedience, and a sacrifice to redeem humanity. If Jesus was willing to give up His life for us, let’s choose to surrender our lives to give Him glory.
Show me your will, Lord, and give me the courage to do it. Amen.
